Public Relations Coordinator:
John Flores

John Flores has been a member of PHPSA since Spring of 2009 and became the Public relations officer in Spring of 2010. After leaving the organization in Spring of 2011, he has finally returned to join PHPSA’s new team this semester, Spring 2013. He has and continues to enjoy the helpful and fun events that PHPSA offers to its members. From the rewarding volunteer events to the exciting social events, PHPSA has never failed to make his college life a memorable one.

He currently resides in the middle of nowhere-otherwise known as Suisun City, CA. This allows him to enjoy the wonderful traffic during his 2 hour commute to school! He started his pursuit of a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry in Fall of 2008 at San Francisco State University and is now on his 5th year. He is hoping to get accepted into the Master’s Program here at SF State before he goes on to pursue his other dream-to become a shuttle driver for SF State! Just kidding, John hopes to one day become a dentist and start a practice here in California.

He has been a part of the Mano Po internship program in the past which allowed him to lobby and organize events for the World War II veterans of San Francisco. He continues to stay in touch with the organizers and continues to recruit new interns to participate in this wonderful program. He is currently part of San Francisco General Hospital’s research internship program. As a research assistant, he is able to be in the emergency room and assist doctors with identifying potential patients that can be enrolled into the various research studies being done by the hospital.

He is also working at SF State as the laboratory assistant for the undergraduate biochemistry lab. He assists with preparing various chemical solutions from buffers used to house E. coli cells to running SDS gels to analyze proteins. He also assists students with the experiments and answers any questions they have. So if you ever have to take that lab class, CHEM 343, he is the person to go to for help!

When he is not driving people around, doing homework, or working in the lab, he enjoys spending time with his mom, little sister, and his baby-a 12 year old pomeranian. He wishes you good luck and looks forward to meeting and working with all of the new and returning members of the Pre-Health Professions Student Alliance!
