MISSION STATEMENT
The Cheerleading Team at SF State, promotes San Francisco State University's school involvement through athletic events, as well as campus activities. The team is a direct reflection of our campus' diversity; and as an up and coming program, our main goal is to work as one in achieving our highest potential for University pride and spirit.

Cheerleaders are the coed school Spirit team charged with increasing and driving school spirit at University functions and events. The team represents what SF State has to offer in terms of students' leadership, contributions, and opportunities for involvement.

DETAILS
This is not a scholarship athletic team, but a group of coed students who love to push themselves to something higher every day and are willing to try-out every year. This team is treated as an recreational sport athletic team and the demands are no less. There is a "purple" squad, which is comprised of student's who try-out during the spring. It is open to all for tryouts, but during the regular academic year, so harder to get to for incoming freshmen. The "gold" squad is open to all as well, and tryouts are during the first two weeks of school in the Fall. If you are planning on trying out for the "gold" squad, please arrange your Fall academic schedule accordingly by referring to the required practice times on the "Events and Tryouts" section of this website. Allow a 30 minute window before and after practices if you do plan classes near those practice times. If you do make it, your schedule will correspond and you will not have to struggle with trying to add a class or dropping a class. The two squads are selected strictly on the tryout you make the team under and by the needs of the coaching/advising staff.

During the fall semester, plan on attending a game every other weekend and occasionally during the week. During Basketball season, your schedule is a little more packed with games potentially more than once a week.

Spirit Squad members are expected to make a serious commitment to the program. The season begins in early August and concludes in April with potential basketball tournament appearances, campus promotional events, and ending with Spring tryouts.

We hope you try out for and enjoy the legacy we are trying to continue here at SF State.
